thats a good idea,
before i was able to get a bike stand, I went to home-depot and bought a series of pipes, bends, and a vice. The unfortune thing is it takes a while to get it flat. but it worked pretty well. just make sure the vice has some cloth on it so it doesn't hurt the surface, and as long as you dont squeeze the piece to hard it'll stay.
your stand ooks awesome, you could totaly take it where ever you go.
its a good feeling when you build your own tools.
