Should we change Msdhw to Mtbhub?
|
|
Wanted to get your guys opinion regarding the name of Msdhw and msdhw.com . I have been considering re-launching a new improved site on mtbhub.com and renaming the community as Mtbhub. Let me know your thoughts on the name change.
Thanks,
Ivan

I think a change is overdue and would dramatically benefit the community. I'm hoping we could work with different groups and establish a freeride/gravity racing network. Imagine all the groups collaborated on one networking project! rideSFO, ihatebikes.net, SFDirtLab, etc...

I think its a great idea. "MSDHW" has sadly come to be known as the site that died. A new name might pull in new and old users so long as there are other changes as well.

Definitely change the name. It is too difficult for people to remember when you tell them about the site. Maybe something with Bay Area in the title?

Great feedback so far guys.
Users and posts will be transferred to the new site. I am not sure what is going to happen to the photos.
I thought mtbhub.com would be a good neutral name that could allow us to expand and also quite easy to remember. Ideas are welcome of course. Godaddy.com is a good place to see if the name is available.
I am not sure what the timetable is, but the first thing I think we need to do is migrate the existing forum to the newest software very and make some design and logo changes.
The photo gallery and extra features will then have to be added in later on.
Perhaps a blog as well. Here is an example: http://sjfixed.org/
Anyway, look forward to more feedback and brainstorming.
Thank you,
Ivan

Thanks :-)
Regarding the domain name being more specific to the Bay Area -- one idea is to use subdomain names: sf.mtbhub.com , bayarea.mtbhub.com , etc.
There are still some logistics to figure out in terms of the vbulletin upgrade and what to do with the photo gallery.
I also like the idea of the network that Rich mentioned earlier. Perhaps there can be a tie in somehow.
Need to give it some more thought. As always feel free to pitch in =)

i dunno how this will be received, but my vote is for something less bay centric just by virtue of the fact that itd probably draw more people in... plus id still feel like part of the community out here in colorado
although there is something about this site that just needs to stay bay...
i really dunno, but im also in favor of richs bay area racing conglomerate

Thanks for voicing. Keeping it Bay Area orientated will definitely make it easier to manage and keep it more niche and area specific.
NG -- definitely.
Still open to feedback and suggestions. =)

Ideally for me I would like it to be bay area specific and everyone would mainly use this one site instead of going on mtbr, ridemonkey, ridesfo, etc. I don't know how to get everyone to primarily use one site though.
