MRP Long Range Patrol... your thoughts, opinions?

I'm looking for a bash or chain guide solution. Single chainring setup is acceptable but double (granny+middle) is preferrable. Replacing the largest ring for a bash ring sounds like an affordable solution if I need granny/middle setup...but I have a feeling it will not provide the same chain retention performance as a single chainring with chain tensioner.

Looking at the MRP Long Range Patrol or Blackspire Dewlie Chain Guide.
I know the LRP comes in a Fatty model with 5mm outer plate that doubles as a bash. Both kinda expensive...

Your thoughts, opinions? Where I can find either of these for cheap?

The Kore Chain Reactor that I have right now seems to be doing well... pair that up with a bashguard and a front derailleur to help keep it on, and it should be good. I have an extra one actually.

I would say go with the MRP LRP...it is a bit costly for what you are getting but it works great. I have it currently setup with just a single chainring 36t and it has not failed once I got my front derailluer positioned right. Even the rocks at Fontana could not throw my chain off If you are looking for a budget setup you may want to go with what DLO said or see if you could get the old skool MRP Cross-speeds...you can also check out www.dhrings.com . They have some nice stuff. Peace. -mm

I decided to go with a single chainring cuz I rarely use the granny or big ring when I ride around campus. With this in mind, I do not need need a chain tensioner... just two plates to keep the chain from falling off either side of the 34t ring. I was told eNVy makes an inner plate that fits in place of the granny gear to prevent the chain from falling in toward dark chainsuck territory (think MRP System 1 minus the boomerang and rollers).

Minor Problem: I cannot find this product in the United States! All the dealers are located in Canada. Hmm...

What will it look like? Visit eNVy "DoubleE" and have yourself a look.

Target Result = inner plate + 34 tooth chainring + outerplate/bash guard.

If that's what you want, I'd just find something from dhrings.com

Ummm

Well, with what you say you want, then I would call Colin at DHRINGS.com
and just tell him what you want. IE.the inner chainring being a bashring.
He will cut it for you. May I suggest that you look into a Roox Upper chainguide to go with your set up as well? It bolts on just like a Front Der. only it locks in the chain. Also,if you wanted, you could get a Fat Cat bottom setup. Fat Cat mounts on the chainstay. It has a wheel just like the Kore, only. A: The chain can be Taken on/off the wheel. B: It is stout Al and can take a beating. C. The adjustments on the two plates can be changed with a thin piece of plastic and longer bolts depending on how thick/thin your chainstay is. I have a Fat Cat and have beat it to hell. I give it a thumbs up. You probally dont want the Fat Cat as it might impead on your riding style. But I thought I would share it with you. However, the Roox will help you for sure going with exactly what you want. IE,no BoomerRang.

I have the DHRING bashrings on my Super 8. Both rings are
made for a 36 tooth ring. Boomerang setup with MRP as the rollers ONLY. The plates are a Quarter Inch thick. I mash them at Stanford, hit them on Rocks at N*, and all I have to do is file her when needed. I could not be happier. Pure Hait those my plates are. Make sure you tell him that you want the thicker plates. Anyway,I hope I am not to late with advice.
