=-moeser idea-=

My friend and i had an idea to build a DH like trail (with jumps and banks) down the side of moeser near the jumps. i made a little picture of how it might go:

my friends and i are willing to put in lots of time and effort, do you think its a good idea? would you help? and and suggestions?

They tore down everything for a reason. You need to find out why before you start digging. If you know how much effort goes into building trails then you would be very carefull building on a spot that just got torn down.It would suck to put a couple hundred hours into something that would be doomed.Just my 2 cents.

here are a couple suggestions before you jump into your plans.

as a trail builder i would suggest a few things you do before you waste efforts and put an unintentional bruise on the bike community.

i would go to the city and see what the history and plans for the area are and if there are any possibilities for your plans

make sure you show you have done your homewrk with solid printed plans for the site and make sure you present this to officials as a community effort with positive influence. get political with your intentions and make them feel as if they thought of the idea and it is there contributions to thier community.

give them a risk assesment of the plans. meaning how much risk is involved for users of the area compared to other areas and demographics of the users as well.

since it is surrounded by homes i would suggest getting to know some of the bordering homeowners and pick thier brains. is there a homeowners group, do they have children, present the idea of the plans and ask if they can advocate for you as well. if you have local homeowners in on the plans it is more likely to stick than just yourself.

if you go down this path and do it correctly you would be surprised at the resources that may be available to you.

if you get that far and have a go to build let me know if you need any help on the mechanics of building.

check out the thread i posted in general construction under ladder courses.

let me know if you need a hand

judging by the way you wrote that, im not sure if you know is that there are already lots of things there. jumps, plank drop, single track, a fire road like thing, much more. and im pretty sure area is owned by pge or ebmud.

thanks for your input

Your ladder building skills

Maybe you could try building a little ladder course at moeser to add to the things their. If you want i can help and i could get people to help also if you'd like. This probably will only work out if you live nearby though, where do you live?

i was just adding to the previous post of how things can go south when popularity increases. i am not familiar with the area but i am sure someone has a finger on that land.

as far as teeters go,

the best response i have seen from previous builds was a step up jump onto a teeter that was set up as a drop off to a tranny of some sort.

a good teeter should be at the very least 12 feet long and is best with a 5 foot high pivot. use galvanized pipe at the pivot point and be sure to use half of a truck tire for the longer side of the teeter to fall on. the A frame for the pivot needs to be built with 4x4 lumber and should be a minimum of 6x6 feet at its base. if you guys see me out at carlmont tommorow i can draw you a qiuck plan of a good set up.

there are many stories about the area i wolnt go into, but its pretty much a big open area of land sorounded by trees and road all on a steep downhill slope. people have accepted it as a biking area and dont really tear it down anymore. Its owed by people who dont do anything on the land so its all good.

im not sure what the point of writing that was, but w/e :06: :dunno: :spam:

It's PG&E land and they were ok with us using the place for 50 years already despite the fact that it's been torn down and built up a couple of times already... i hope it doesnt get torn again soon. A couple of friends of mine have been building for the past few days and they have been refurbished and are now bigger, cleaner and better.

Also, please post directions and locations in a PM and not on the boards... if mods see this pls remove the post about which states it's location... thank you
