04 Marzocchi 8" 888R review

Another awesome fork put out by Marzocchi. I've only had mine for a handful of rides, and sadly have to let it go. Initial opinions, tall, a tad lighter than a Monster T, 8" of bottom less travel, and like all Zokie forks, verrrrrrrry plush. They did a great job cosmetically, making the entire fork all black, with a hint of red on the stickers. The result is a stealthy looking fork if paired up with the right colored bike.

I can only compare this fork to my 99 Monster T. Both are plush forks, but the 888 does win in some places. It certainly has more adjustability, and I also added a compression sleeve that is meant to control the slower speed hits. I didn't really seem to notice the weight difference on the trail. The turning radius on the Monster T is also insane compared to the 888, but most likely not used as well. The 888R is not a light fork when compared to a Dorado or Boxxer. It is also tall, so depending on the rider, this may be a negative. The height did not affect me at all, and I even found it some what pleasing. I believe Go-ride.com and Risse both make crowns for the 888 that drops the height to make it more bearable. I was really happy to see that Marzocchi finally got rid of their QR20 system. Just remember to have 2 allen wrenches that are the same size for taking out the axle.

First year forks always seem to have a couple problems. I've read about lowers cracking, lowers leaking, and seals blowing. A quick search on some of the bigger message boards will probably turn up more information.

Can't comment too much more since I've only had the fork for a little bit. But it's definitely one that I wouldn't mind coming back to!
