2 Ring Compatible Chain Guide for 03 SC Heckler

I'm looking at the Evil Dual Ring Security (DRS) System and a MRP LongRangePatrol (LRP) for my 03 Heckler. I've decided to drop the big ring and I'm looking for any input on those who have put 2 ring guides on their 03 Heckler. Any issues, recommendations, PICS, would be appreciated. My current setup is a standard Truvativ Holzfeller Triple Ring w/Gigapipe bottom bracket.
thx

Do you absolutely need 2 in the front? I have heard good things about the Evil DRS but even better about the Evil SRS

If you can, go single up front with an SRS

Haha, I'm gonna say haha after everything I say. haha
This is so amusing. haha

Even if my only rig was a big dh bike then my decision would still be the same as I usually do a decent amount of trail riding around here. There's plenty of rough rocky stuff thats knocking my chain around significantly enough on the decents ( i guess a sign that i'm getting better...although maybe not smoother just yet) that I think going with a dual ring guide+bash ring would be beneficial. As it is I dont really race so top speed and keeping a larger ring for that isn't that much of a priority on dh trails and it would be nice to stop gashing myself on the big ring too, hehe. After I graduate in a few months and gain a decent income and can put some money into more than one bike, I will definitely go with a SRS on whichever dh bike i decide to go with since ive heard such great reviews on em.

When I get some time I was going give evil a call and see what they have to say about fitting one to a 03 heckler...I heard that it was designed with the consideration of bullit's so hopefully installation would be easy if i go with the e13 drs. I do have two buddies who are selling MRP LRP's now for around half the price of the evil so thats kinda tempting too. One is selling the complete setup for 90bux incl the next logical larger ring tooth sizes( i have the standard triple ring as it comes from truvativ)...i dont recall which, and my other buddy is selling just the roller w/o the bash ring for 40 or 50 bux

thx

Go with the DRS, from what I hear the LRP still drops the chain and that bash just wont last if your into "BLACKDIAMOND" riding:D haha.

i got a friend with an '03 heckler set up with the evil two ring system. it seems bombproof and he has had no problems with it. another option is to run a reg. chain guide with a 36 tooth in the front and a 9 speed that goes up to 34 teeth in the back. that is what i am running on my rm6 and i can climb all but the steepest climbs in this area. if i do go 2 ring i will be runn ing evil guide myself.

Thanks for all the input...Theres plenty of long steep climbs around here so I definitely want 2 rings up front. I'm most likely leaning towards the DRS if school doesnt suck any more of my extra cash this quarter Otherwise the cheapest route would probably be to pick up just the LRP roller from my buddy who is just selling that along with the evil bashguard which it looks like they sell separately called the superchgr kit. Wonder if they sell the just the DRS guide w/o the bashguard so i could just get that if the LRP breaks or im unhappy with it down the road. i have to admit tho I like the looks of the e13 roller setup...it just looks like there's more gripping the chain down there then just a gimpy roller and a piece of metal as compared to the LRP

By the way dvo u have any pics of ur buddies heckler, im curious to check out the build he's got goin on and how that e13 looks on there so i can drool over it a bit while im contemplating my decision.

i will check with him if he has any pics.....the best part of the e system is the stepped roller, i would think you could use it with most guards. i gotta say though, i think i will stay with the single ring 36 tooth set up. i did 3-4 hours at skeggs yesterday and another 4 at ucsc today. i was able to clean most everything i did on my hardtail and it is rad to know i got a solid chainline.
it is a little spendy but step up and get the e.

My bike is the one dvo is talking about. I have a 22/34 setup with the DRS.

The DRS is pretty sick. The are with the stepped roller does move around a bit up and down. Supposedly it's supposed to be that way so if you smack it, it won't break, just move up and out of the way.

The bashguard itself rules. It slides easily over everything and I can't imagine anything damaging this thing, it definitely seems indestructible.

I have the older roller (the new one is softer to make it quieter) and it is pretty quiet as far as I am concerned. It shifts/works great, I can backpedal or whatever and it just works.

I've attached a pic, bike is dirty, but you can see how killer this thing looks.

That DRS looks pretty sweet on your Heckler. I think I'm gonna go with that in a few weeks since I mind as well do it right the first time! Thanks for the help and here's a pic of my Heckler for you guys to check out.

By the way, where did you buy it from and did you have any issues installing it? I was going to call up evil first to see if it will mount up easily with my current BB setup. So far i've found that go-ride has the best deal on it at $119 .

Ebay has some good deals actually, I got mine brand new for $90. Single ring set up though. If you want, I can look up the username of who sold it - he had a bunch of them. And they say evil on them too :D

That would be sweet DLo if u can find that guy on ebay. I just searched but could only find one person with the SRS listed currently at 75 bux which is a good deal for that if was looking for a single ring setup.

That's the auction. I saw one of his auctions too late or something, either that, or it ended early - and I wanted a chainguide so I emailed the guy to see if he had anymore. Told me that he just puts them up now and then, so I kept an eye out for it. Think it was within a week, and I saw another one from him. Good luck!

I just searched around online for a good price and got mine for $125 with shipping from some bike shop in Utah. But at the time alot of shops I wanted to buy from were out of stock also since they got so popular pretty quickly (last december/january was when I bought it).

I bet now you'll get some pretty good prices since E-thirteen is starting to crank some more of those out and get em in the shops.

As far as installation, the instructions are pretty clear. It did take a little figuring out of a couple things. One thing that is important is to make sure to use the spacers so that the inside face of the guide is even with the inside face of the bashguard.

Also, when they say don't overtighten the bolts for the rollers that is spot on. I was worried that abuse would make em come loose, so I tightened em more than I was supposed to. That makes the roller not really roll and it is way louder. Leave em slightly loose like they say and you're good to go.

Sweet looking ride. Your setup looks real close to what I have. This bike rules.
