I was just gonna post about this subject. I just got done making my rear king hub thru axle. Nothing much to it, the XT's should be the same or pretty similar. Just take 2 allens, pop each side of the hub off. Once these are off the internal assembly that holds the QR skewers pull right out. Pop in the new axle and bolt the 2 new end pieces on. Thats all.
Just took the bike out and it is sooooooooo much stiffer in the rear. Reminds me of when I upgraded my rear sway bar in my car, the rear end just stays put and it's stiff as f*ck. Can't wait to test it out at the track.

The XT is pretty messy if you plan on taking it apart. They sell a kit for the CK hubs. For the XT you will need to loosen the nuts/bearing races off the threaded axle and then reinstall the bolt-on axle in the opposite manner. I have done it before and the hardest part is tightening/centering the axle accordingly. -mm
