Rubber mallet!! :(

then buy a romic...that is what I had to do. The tolerances on the OE crown are so tight; it almost makes it impossible to remove!!

I had a Boxxer for like 2 weeks. Here's how I remember getting the top crown off: make sure ALL the bolts are super loose then remove the stem and all that. Use a rubber mallet to tap down on the steerer tube. It should "scrape" the top crown off. Good luck

Take the top caps off first and it will make it a lot easier. I think Tone told me that trick after I sold him my boxxer... -mm

setting a Boxxer has nothing to do with the weight or amount of oil..you need proper springs. I'm 140 and have one yellow (med) and one silver (soft)

10wt in compression
20wt in rebound

fill both legs until 120mm from the top of the stanchions when fully compressed. when installing the new blood make sure you cycle the upper tubes 20-30 times in order to get the oil to fill the valves/assemblies.

OH NOOOOO! Not the boxxer crown! Those things are the biggest pieces of crap. Whoever designed them was on crack. That's probably the only reason i hated my Boxxer. The best trick is to use a rubber mallet and TAKE THE TOP CAPS OFF -->This is key. Other than that, get a Romic. Ivan and I ended up shaving out the inside of the crown just to get it to fit. It was such a waste of time and effort. Don't do that though, just stick to the advice above and you should be fine.

ive owned a boxxer for 3 years. while its sort of a pain in the ass to get off, mine was never that difficult. tap on the left, tap on the right, tap in the center, repeat as neccesary.

Anyways, Acadian. I beg to differ with your statement that the weight of the oil you use has nothing to do with setting up a Boxxer. Changing the weight of the oil can drastically enhance the performance for your Boxxer, specifically reducing rebound and increasing compression (to a degree of course). Have you experimented with different weight oils?

didn't need too...

Been using boxxers for 3 years...owned a 01 (which I still have) a 02 and now 2003.5 ;) Always used 10 and 20 in all my forks (well to the exception of my 2003 WC). 110mm in my 2001 and 120 in my 2002. Always been perfect for me!

but then again...that's just my personal preference...

doesn't mean it will work for everyone. But I don't recommend using anything higher than 30wt in rebound just to slow it down...

Ok..... I admit it, this is my fork. :D

Anyways.... rebound is super fast and by pulling up and pushing down, I use 5" of its travel. It would probably be fine since I will be doing mostly trail riding..... but how do I make the rebound slower? When I push my front end down, the front wheel flys off the ground :(

I just checked and I have 2 yellow springs in mine.

I can't see any oil at all though..... but 1 drip dripped off of one of the springs. I have no clue what weight oil to get

Haha, I'm gonna say haha after everything I say. haha

if you had proper springs (lighter ones) the rebound wouldn't feel as fast.

try the oil I mentioned above...

The thing is, the fork is still super loose so there's no way I will use lighter ones. I will try different oil but should I do it myself? or bring it to a shop?
Generally I do things myself but I've never done anything with fork internals or anything
