PROBLEMS...azonic cranks, WTF?
|
|
I CANNOT GET THESE MOTHER F'ING THINGS SETUP PROPERLY! Anyone delt with 'em that can help me out? Something on 'em isn't flush and is making the whole setup seem bent. Another thing....when I tighten the crank bolts down the cranks get all f*cked up and won't spin. I have spent like 5 hours with no luck.

Yeah, I used to have em. I can help you sometime with it but I can't explain it. They are a BITCH to setup, but once you get it.... they are beautiful
And once they are all good to go, you DO NOT touch them

Haha, I'm gonna say haha after everything I say. haha
This is so amusing. haha

It's JUST A MATTER of the Correct order on the Spacers. It's
Bread and Butter once you know that. I tried in VAIN to get you
that order off of mtbr. Scott or James from go-ride made a post on the
order, but with that new Software I Cant find it. :12: You could
call them tommorow,or post on RidMonkey mtbr etc. Most people
dont know the order though. There great Cranks, dont get mad at them,
it's just that you dont know the order of the spacers. I will contact
my buddie to see if he can email the order. He runs them, but he moved
on me. Peace.
Dogie.

This is what I was looking for. Let me know how it worked for you.
Peace.
Dog :22:
1. There should be a total of 3 silver bearing spacers. 2 of them are the same size and 1 is a bit longer.
· 1 bearing spacer goes between the drive side bearing cup and the large flat spacer.
· 1 bearing spacer goes between the non-drive side bearing cup and the large cone shaped spacer.
For each of the above spacers you will need an additional alignment spacer (the smaller ones) to keep the large flat and cone shaped spacers from dragging on the bearing cups. The instructions don't show spacers in this place, but you will need them.
· The 3rd silver spacer (the larger one) goes inside the spider so it fits tightly around the axle.
2. When tightening the axle (end) bolts they shouldn't be too tight or the bearings will bind. Then you can tighten the crank arm pinch bolts tight to prevent any slippage.
3. The crankarms are usually really hard to get on the axle the first time. The easiest way is to hammer (with a plastic hammer or a wood block and hammer) the axle into the crankarm before you put it in the BB cups. Then hammer it back off. After that the cranks will slide on with a little hand pressure. If this won't work: 1. Take the pinch bolt out. 2. Thread it into the crank from the other side. 3. Place a coin between the V-cut. 4. Screw the pinchbolt into the coin to spread the V-cut. 5. Hammer the axle in or use the long axle bolts to pull the crank on.
4. On the non-drive side cup there is a lockring. You want the cup to be a bit loose before tightening the lockring. Even if the cup doesn't turn as you tighten the lockring it still gets tighter on the axle, and will cause some bind if it doesn't start out a bit loose.
5. Take your time. It will take a few tries, especially getting the chainring to line up with the chain guide.

tip Slug. I just got off the phone with him.
The above is the Proper order. Now:
1: Get it all together with the correct chainline.
2. Snug it all up by Hand and put the Crank Arm's on.
3: TORQUE THE 5mm Allen Pinch Bolts on the Cranks Arms First.
Spin it,check the play. It should be Proper at this point.
4: Then put Blue LockTite on the Crank Bolts and snug them up.
NOT TO TIGHT or it will bind on you. Hence, the Blue LockTight.
My Buddie has Lost 2 Crank Bolts because he didnt use the LockTight.
He has never had his Pinch Bolts come Loose though. People Gator
torque the Crank Bolt and it Binds up on them.
Peace.

THANK YOU!
Yeah I was playing around with it this morning and I think I got it figured out. I didn't know about overtightening the bolts though. One thing I still can't figure out: There seems to be a wave in the spider/chainring/bash when I tighten the crank bolt and pinchbolt(crank to spider) I know the spider/chainring/bash aren't bent because they don't do it when I just setup everything by hand, it's just when I tighten everything down. Totally screws my chain line and causes my chain to drop and get wedged inbetween the chainring and inner(non moving) mrp plate. I have tryed to figure it out but I have had no luck...it's like some of the spacers or something aren't sitting flush???

On mine, There was a spacer or 2 inbetween the spider and the crank arm right where the bolt goes to bolt the spider on.
If you dont have that, it will make it uneven

yeah thanks Dog. I got them working pretty well but something still isn't flush. I still have a wave in the spider/chainring/mrp that I can't figure out? I know nothing is bent because it used to be about twice as bad. I figured out all the spacing so they are setup pretty good as is. Now I just need to get out and ride!
BTW, any update/luck finding your stolen bike? I have been checking craigslist and other classifieds regularly but nothing has caught my attention. I wish you luck with that.

So you checked the Spider/Ring and MRP plates on a Flat Surface?
Are your spacers that are in there All the same size? Is one of them
screwed up? I am trying to picture it but not having them I am
not to sure of the exact setup? It sounds like the Spider Is bent
to me. My second guess would be the spacers are wack. Can you
post a couple of shots Slug? If you are to busy no worries,I would
like to see it that's all. New Bling Bling and all.
The Bike: No word. I have my fingers crossed. I am trying to accept
the fact that it's gone. I get Mad. I just hope for Good Carma. The Boy
is going bezerk. He cant stand it. He wants a new Bike. I just bought a Diamond Ring for my SweetHeart. A very nice one. So,I dont know when
I can do something? Find my bike Boys, bring it back to the Dog and get
your Treats. Peace.

I thought there was a new lead about some large guy riding it around Stanford/Palo Alto and bringing it into Mike's Bikes? Something about him breaking a lot of stuff?
If it's true, hopefully the kid will break something that Mike's Bikes needs to keep the bike overnight to fix, and then they'll have his phone number and the bike.
I'll keep my eye out, and good luck with it.
Zack
