Clipless Shoes - the best ones for the money?

Any suggestions? I have a set of Specialized.. what was it, Gato shoes? Bought them back in 98 or 99, and they're ok. But I kind of want something that really keeps my foot in the shoe, these only have two velcro straps. I remember Tone had some sick SIDI's, but those are probably way out of my price range. I've been debating getting the dual purpose type, with the flatter type of sole where you can use it on platforms if you want - but I think if I did go that direction, I'd rather just put on platform pedals instead. Checked out some Answers and 661 shoes. What do you guys like?

Hey, still got the SIDI's if you want to buy them off me. I don't know if they'd fit you though. I have to check the size... Anyways, i would check out the Van's SPD's if they are still making them...those are sick. I like flat spd's, not the race style as they are somewhat uncofortable. I have a pair of recreational shimanos that are hella comfortable and work really well as spd's. You might want to check mine out and see how you like em.

Tone, I don't have any money for them right now, even though I'd love to check them out. Blew out my fox again and I've got some other parts already on order. Maybe if we ride Sunday, do you think you could bring them so I could check them out? Do you have cleats for them?

Buddy had the Vans SPD shoes a long time ago. They held up pretty well. Your best bet is to try them at a LBS to see if they are right for you (fit, comfortability, walkability, etc...) -mm Here is a shot of them.
