Reds and greens

I need new pads asap and I'm deciding between the ebc red or green pads. I do downhill trails and come accasional DH races. Exactly how much shorter do the red pads last than the greens?

I was wondering the same thing actually. I have been looking into getting red pads just to try them and see how long they last. Also, what are the best aftermarket pads. I was going to get ebc'c, but have seen some other options lately. Thanks

REds wear out really fast. I just got the standard hayes ones and they wrk fine, plus they last long time. :lmao:

Downhill racing is not an extreme sport.

unless youre into that sorta thing...

WERD. The reds wear out very quickly. I dont see a point to try another type of pad. Hayes seem to work well in all conditions and last a while. :147: -mm

As a matter o fact I have, sirbikealot. I just got some and they rule. They take one or two rides to completly wear in, but are still powerfull before that. They also seem to add some modulation, and are only 19.99 at my LBS. The only weird thing was that I needed to take those funky wires off the back of the old pads and stick 'em on the backs of the koolstops because they didnt come with 'em. Its a very simple task, no worries. They miiight wear kind of fast given how powerful they are, but IMO, its worth it eitherway. -J :11:

I've tried the EBC Green, red, and golds, plus the koolstops and the couple different Hayes compounds avalible.

If you're just looking for a replacement, anything works well.

For the best in braking performance, the EBC Reds are the only way to go. Yes, they wear very quickly. But they are the only pads that offer good modulation and stopping power when the brakes become VERY hot. Most people don't weigh as much or go as fast to generate the amounts of heat i'm suggestiong, but if you want the best, the Reds are the only way to go.

Using an infered pyrometer, as well as chemical temp paint, i've measured rotor temps between 500F and 600F just beyond the braking surface of the rotor.

PS - several years ago the EBC Greenstuff brakepads were catching on fire under heavy use in automotive applications. This no longer happens with a change in compound formula.

I'm slow. No, really, I'm slow.
