New Marzocchi Springs Installed.

My Z3 QR20 was just too oversprung so I decided to get some new springs for my weight. I ended up going with the white medium springs which are designed for 145-180lb riders. The fork feels a lot better but I think I may have to fool around with the oil wt/level to make sure it does not bottom out. I will keep ya posted on how things go. I hope that forty bucks does the trick :) -mm

I have been planning to convert my 98 Z1 BAM down from 130mm heavy springs to 110mm medium springs with fresh stock 7.5wt Finish Line oil (mix 1 part 5wt and 1 part 10wt). After reading the printed manual, the online manual at marzocchimtb.com, and some suggestions at mtbr reviews, I am still hesitant to take apart the stanchion/leg assembly. I have really grown accustomed to having 5 inches of travel. Not sure if I want to switch now! :p

I took the bike out for a mild XC spin with the team today and it seems to be taking the small bumps ALOT BETTER...I have yet to take it on some drops tomorrow during our DH practice session. I will keep ya posted but it seems like a great upgrade. As for the 5-->4inch conversion I think it would enhance the geometry of your ht bike and if you go with the med springs that will make a night/day difference in itself. Either way the springs are a great upgrade...new oil too...late -mm

Went to a certified shock mechanic today, Mike at North of the Border, and he told me a few tips in regards to oil etc. First, he told me not to use the 10wt Rock Shox oil due to its inconsistency and instead go with the Golden Spectro 125/150 = 7.5wt oil and fill it to 45mm from the top. Second, he told me that it is a good idea to undo the top caps and suspend the front end up once in a while to release built up pressure in the shock. This is a similar theory to mx shocks which have air pressure release valve to release the unwanted air pressure that might have built up over time. I will tryout his suggestions hopefully tomorrow and let you guys know if it made a difference or not. Peace. -mm

I never thought of the pressure buildup... maybe that's why my Xvert blew out? As soon as we took out the oil and put it back together (without the oil) the fork was using all of the travel again. Or perhaps it was just dirty as hell inside

I put some golden spectro 125/150 today at 45mm height from the top and can feel a HELL of a difference. PLUSH,PLUSH,PLUSH! I can't wait to try it on the trails. I test rode it outside the bikeshop and felt like it did not bottom out on a 6 foot drop. I'll keep you guys posted. Peace. -mm

Cant wait to get out to some real DH trails...Mission Trials killed the bike and my body today. Really upset at my 2 wipeouts and dog shit getting on my rear swingarm/tire. The only thing I am happy with is the suspension which is really easing off the amount of work I have to do. I think I should have went to white springs and the golden spectro oil earlier but oh well at least my arms are built up to take the abuse of the extra spring recoil from before. Going to bring it back to the shop for a few adjustments tomorrow...ill see if I can get a trail ride in to feel the effects. -mm

Haha, you said dog shit.

Ok seriously, glad the springs are working out, something like that, I wouldn't think of immediately and would play with air pressure/rebound/compression forever before I switched springs.

 I said "DOG SHIT" hahaha....yea I was pretty pissed that day... sucks when I still had some sticking on the frame when I got back home...ended up using the damp towel trick  Anyway, I wish I could do more adjustments to the Z3 but it does not seem like the quick rebound will ever get better. The oil helped but it is still no where close to that of a 'real' fork. I think I will just stick with it until it blows up or I can sell it back out. Peace,mm

Just curious, what springs were in there?

I'm considering changing the springs in my Z2 race. I weigh between 140 and 150 pounds, and whatever is in there now is too stiff for me.

Thanks,
Scott
