Hayes El Camino Brakes - Good?

I saw the thread below, but Im looking for SPECIFIC information of why you guys dont like or heard people dont like El Caminos. Not just "they suck" or "they are a rip off". When you say that the modulation sucked and Mags were better, are you sure you had them bled and adjusted correctly, as this seems it can be a problem.

I already bought a pair of Juicy 5s, and I know they ride great, but i have a chance to get the El Cos for cheap for my hardtail. Same price as Juicy 5s, so...

I think the main problem people have had with El Camino's would be the fade on long descents. I guess this won't be a problem though if you're planning to use them on your hardtail. Good luck.

I don't think el caminos are good brakes for downhill. They are more of a XC brake. If you want to run something other than mags for a some reason just go with Juicy 7s, they rock. El Caminos have a tendency to fade and pump up when riding DH.

one of my team mates them and I've ridden his bike, so thats first hand experience. Peter Lucas also has Juicy 7s and one time we did this 7 mile downhill in Utah and his brakes were fine but everyone else's smelled like buring rubber and weren't working.

yeah I like Juicys, I already have a pair for my Demo. But i figured it might be nice to jump on a good deal for the brakes. As long as they are powerful, I dont mind fade to much. Most of the 5 mile decents will be handled by the DH bike. This bike is for racing, jumping, moderate trail duty. I like the feel of both the levers, but theres no mistaking the Hayes feel more solid.

I actually wrangled a pair of Caminos to try first, so I guess Ill report back, see if they are worth it.
