Aside from the very scary adaptor setup there (I already bend my adaptors, let alone when they are twice as far from the fork), it appears people like them. Im more worried about the weight. Besides...my 8" Avid J5s work beautiful at the bottom of a 10 minute knarly descent...

It isn't just a matter of the adapters material. Those bolts take on a hell of a lot of shear forces, which is the type of force that bolts are least capable of withstanding. The greater the diameter of the rotor, the more leverage the brake puts on the mounts.

Ive bent some Avid (front and rears) and other long adaptors, but never a Hayes adaptor. Considering I can bend an 8" Avid adaptor, Im sure someone could bend that 9" setup. Yes they tried to design it to withstand the torque the rotor gives, but there is never going to be a point where that force is 100% perfectly vectored into the adaptors vertical length. There will always be a tendency to for the brake caliper to pull to one side which is what will bend and brake stuff.

And no not from crashing, just from riding a lot. Im only 150 pounds. Ive also seen the avid adaptors bend like bubble gum in crashes, whereas my Hayes adaptors withstood much more. Atleast Avid adaptors have the CPS system which allows you to dial out the bend for the most part.
