im thinking of getting a pair of juicy sevens but all the reviews make them sound extremely loud. I was wondering if anyone has juicy sevens and could let me know if they really are that noisy.

I have 7's and they are not noisy. I do get this funky thing with my levers. They can flip away from the bars. I dunno. Maybe they just weren't bled correctly.

Having ridden 7s and 5s, Ive never really experienced any noise except on my 05 Juicy 5 which had a bad rotor. About the only other time I have experienced noise, is when Im tooling around in the parking lot before or after a ride. However once you get moving, Ive never had a problem.
Squealing brakes can stem from pad or rotor contamination or vibration with the pads. There are many ways to remedy this.
That said, Ive never used the lever adjustment and never seen or heard of anyone using them on the 7s. Therefore I usually recommend the 5s because they are considerably cheaper, seem to be generally firmer at the lever, and just as powerful. The 7s are a little lighter though.
The only brakes Ive had bad noise problems with have been old style Hayes and all Hope brakes.

Thats what I meant by contaminated rotors and pads and vibration. Contaminated pads...means you need to replace the pads. So try that last. Contaminated rotor you can usually clean off. This doesnt always mean you also have contaminated pads. Use alcohol or a brake rotor cleaner (available at any auto store). Finally, also available at an autoshop, there are anti-squeal products for disc brakes. Essentially its a vasoline type substance that goes between the piston and the brake pad. You can also make sure that the springs holding your pads from vibrating is still tensioned.
If none of that works, then the only other suggestion I might give is to try a friends rotor. Some rotors, one in ton, just have problems or if you broke them in wrong...

I heard from someone at Northstar last season that the early Juicy's came with wavy rotors that were actually designed to slightly change thickness as they spun. Avid was hoping this would disapate heat quicker but the thinner parts caught air pockets and made noise with the brake was used. Avid's newer rotors are flat, like they should be, and wont make that weird noise. This guy also said that if you called Avid they would replace your old wavy rotors for the newer version all under warrenty. Again I heard all this from a guy at Northstar but it all makes sense.
I have Juicy 7's and love them to death. I use the pad adjustment alot to adjust for pad wear. Some people say I have OCD when it comes to bike maintainece but I need to have both levers engage at the same point. This adjustment makes it realllllly easy to do this. I got mine used but if I was buying new I'd get the 5's cause like Max said they are cheaper and I guess I could deal without the adjustment.

Josef, yes you are correct. 2005 (I do not think any 2006 should be affected by this unless they were a super early release) Avid rotors sometimes had problems with noise and warping. And yes, like Josef said, they will replace them under warranty. The easiest way to tell is that after some hard braking, you will notice that there should be equal areas on the rotor that have seen less braking then the others areas, alternating.

all the new juicys ive felt have the weird lever pop-out thing. I've never heard of it being a problem though, because it really doesnt affect anything.
And compared to hopes, juicys are silent.

It so when ur transporting the bike without the wheels on, the lever will not compress, moving the pistons in and making you need to adjust them.

how does that work, cant they still be pushed in? I thought that it was for doing work on the brake near the levers.

Also often that squeal comes from your spokes being improperly tensioned. One of the kids on my team has an EC-X that howled, till he had the wheel trued
