why isnt it coming out!?

what do i do if the starnut in my steertube for my pike is stripped!?
when i turn the blot to loosten the headset after loostening bolts that clamp the steertube the bolt seems to just freewheel around in the starnut. This makes it so i cant pull my stem off steertube and i need to put my fork on a different bike. what can i do?

SpeedDubNate has really good write-ups

sounds like you need a new star nut. Really cheap, but difficult to remove. I use starnutz on one bike and a headlock on another.

Hmm, sounds like he can't even get the top cap/stem off because the threaded bolt part of the starnut is broken free from the flanges that grab the inner steerer tube. The only thing I can think of to do is to try and pull the fork off with your hands and break the star nut flanges that way. It might be really hard and could damage the inside steerer though. Another idea is to drill the starnut screw out from the outside of the top cap. You could get away with only ruining your top cap and star nut. Just be sure not to drill the edges of the steerer tube. Starnuts are eaisley replaced and top caps should be found in a scrap box at a local bike shop.

the same thing happened to me a couple months ago,
what I did was I craked the spacer and took it off (it got pretty messy)
and I pried off the top cap and bolt
after that I hammered the star nut out

the hole in the bottom of the steertube isnt big enough for me to even put a flat head through. And my topcap is keeping my stem on the steer tube so its just completely stuck... i think im gonna try using the drill and just drilling through everything... thanks
