Deraileur Hanger help

so the last 2 rides ive been on I've snapped 2 hangers (one was the brand new replacement one I bought 1 hr before my ride). Before this I've never snapped one since I've been riding, so i was wondering if it's the way I'm riding or could something be wrong with the frame? deraileur? any ideas?

Also, what is your setup?
Front / rear travel?
Rear dérailleur?
Chainguide or 2x9? (chainline could be wack)
Did it snap in high or low gears?

Its on an 04 stp. I was riding a pump track and when i pumped over a roller it broke. I never leave my bikes on the deraileur and its never hit anything (I've only had it for 2 weeks and havent crashed yet). It was in 6th gear and i run a single ring up front with no guide.

what kinda derailleur? whered you get the hanger? did you over tighten it? was it straight (the der and the hanger)? did you set the screw that positions the main pivot correctly? could the chain have dropped, caught something, and torqued on the hanger?

ps, you dont just break a hanger by just riding along or pumping over a roller, something else was happening... not calling you a lier, just saying that if you werent doing anything concsiously bad for it, then something was bad for it that you didnt catch... its an old saying in bike mechanic circles: There's no such thing as just riding along.

Downhill racing is not an extreme sport.

unless youre into that sorta thing...

Its a deore derailleur, got the hanger at caeser's cyclery in san anselmo. It wasn't over tightened but the only thing i can think of is the derailleur could be bent, but I havr to put it back together to see.

ok so i figured out that it was the deraileur. (so it was possible that i was just riding along). Derailleurs have these stoppers so they don't overtorque on the spring and mine was stripped (i guess mostly stripped when i got the bike) and so when the derailleur would bounce it would torque the hanger jsut right so it would break. got a new derailleur, new hanger and now its time to ride.
