space between the hs cap and steerer tube

i was wondering if it would be a bad idea to have a set up where the distance between the steerer tube and the headset camp and the forks steerer tube was half an inch. the stack height for the stem is only one inch. maybe it would be a bit better if one of those headlock caps were used?

thanks

On my Planet X bike mine is probably more than that and I have had no problems. You can always cut it down later.

I would aim for at least 3/4 overlap between the steerer tube and the stem. Possibly 2/3ish if a headlock is used. You can also get shorter stack stem or an integrated stem if its for a newer dual crown fork.
