Method for bleeding Hopes

For my own reference, and others that are running the brake.

Quote:
You use the lever to pump the fluid into the brake and bleed it, pour oil in the resevior, hand-twist open the bleed nut, pull lever, hand-close bleed nut, repeat untill bubbles gone. It is real simple, no syringes needed, no suction needed, just a crescent wrench to get the resevior top off(on the pro lever, different with minis cause you probably need allens or something to get the top off) and then loosen the bleed nut with the crescent.

No way... when my brakes work flawlessly, I love them. Plus they do have good CS.

Ya flawlessly, remember when we were out at Monte Bello and they didn't work? Like how when I poured a liter of water on them and they would kinda slow you down? As Slug said GET SOME HAYES!!!

No,no,no,

If you want to-be Proper Like a Whopper, then get some
Shimy's. Ehehehheh. I'm sold. Hope's are a darn good brake.
I ran C2's and the DH04's They can be loud, but they have Modulation unlike Hayes. Also, the power gets stronger the
deeper into the handle. Hayes are on/off,easy to get parts
for,and keep on ticken like a Timex. They are just two different
brakes, but I like um both. However, both of them take a back
seat to the Shimy. As I said on my other post. Right now I have
a Hayes Rear with Razor Rock Handle, and the Brake Therapy
on the Super 8. On the front I have a 03 Shimy 8". It is trippy
running two different brakes for sure, but they work great together. If I was on a budget,I would run Avids. Another great brake. I just got back from Interbike and thought I stop in,
Peace.

the 8" shimanos are by far the best brakes out there in my opinion. however, I find no reason to fix something thats not broken. ive had the same Hayes for 3 years, only thing ive done is change the levers to razor rocks. stock hayes suck. hayes with razor rocks are a whole different boat, but like Dog said, they still take a back seat to the Shimanos. I ran DH4 Hopes for awhile but finally grew tired of them. Every couple months the fluid would just manage to evaporate. No leaks or anything. According to Hope this was "normal", which is complete BS to me. Ive never had to bleed my Hayes once since the installation. Under normal riding my Hayes are sufficent, but this last weekend at Northstar I wish I had a set of Shimanos. More stopping power with less effort and they fade less too. If I ever sell my foes or it ever breaks, Im going to buy one of those new Foes Infernos and Ill run Shimano 8" then.

Hey Raacerx,

You know what would be better than those Razor's is
the GRC's. Huge lever,I love the feel of them, but some people might not like um. Mo Money. Have you felt them? Oh man,it's got to help in Hand Fatique for places like N*. I just got my rear
Shimy for the 8, however I need a different Brake Therapy. A buck
fidy on that. I love the Shimy enough that I'll get it. Until then, which wont be long, the Hayes Stayes. After that, I'll get the
GRC's for the Shimy. It will be at that time {and no sooner} that perfection has been obtained. All the Time and Money spent to
get to This point is mind boggling. Last, what's the deal with your Foes? You cant run a Shimy? Peace.

P.S. before I finished this post the wife handed me a
box. The Avy is back from service.:p

I have seen the grcs and felt em. for some reason I like the razors better. Maybe its cause I got them for free. But I do like the stock shimano levers a lot more then the stock hayes. i was not aware that there were grc for the shimano. that might be a pretty wicked setup.

As far as running the shimmys on my foes, I just dont really want to invest any money into the bike (they would fit fine). Ive only put $100 into it the bike in the last 2 years or so (not including tires) and that was for a shimano xt drivetrain to replace the crappy sram. If this thing ever breaks (and at this rate it doesnt seem like it) Ill start out with all new components. Id like to replace everything soon just cause its all getting pretty worn and beat up. The bike has lasted well beyond my expectations. My fork finally did burp its seals on Sunday and is leaving a puddle of oil on my garage floor as we speak. Looks like after 3 years I may have to rebuild it. That and my rear hayes pads are near finished. The thought if spending money on my bike does not please me.

Well,

it sounds like your stuff has done it's duty and served you well. Gota Love that. You have to spend money on her,you know that.
It's time. Dont fight it. That dent just hurt my eyes, sorry to see it
bro. I bet it happened at N*. I too love the Shimy Stock handle over the Hayes. I just wanted to throw out the GRC's in case you were not aware of them? I'm out.
