SLO Gnar

Ian from downhillnews.com showed up to take pictures of an un-named trail in San Luis Obispo. Richard Lancaster showed up back in town and raced against a few of us locals and some other out of towners. Lots of spectators came out to watch as well. A stop watch was found and we started timing runs for fun ; )

The "ride" was epic and we ended up doing one warm up run and three timed runs. My buddy Owen broke his wrist in warm up and was rushed to the ER. After that I was really spooked, since this is by far the most technical trail in California (as said by me and everyone that's seen it or ridden it) and since I got a concussion and a beat up shoulder from the trail 5 days earlier. Luckily before the first timed run, I got in the zone and was ready to shred. After my third run I had only had one fall in my first run but also one of the best race runs I've ever had in my third run. I got a 2:24, Lancaster got a 2:08 and local Dan Baggs tore it up with a 1:56. Best time ever is a 1:54 by Lancaster, which still stands. Enough talk, here are some of Ian's sick pictures.

I'll be there during this last week of March for Spring break. You still riding DH chris? I have a hardtail now and would be down for some Standford sesh's.

Heres Owen's broken wrist...

Looks pretty tech, but that's a pretty bold statement, most tech in cal...
E mail me, and I can give you directions to a 2000 vertical foot line that is MEGA tech and more than a little out of the way.
2 national dh champions in the last decade have come from living in the 275 person town at the base of this trail. I'll bet less than ten people have ridden it.

I'm always open to see a new tech trail. I'll PM you about it. As with all pictures, the pictures here don't do it justice. You gotta hike or bike this sucker to see what its about.

Im down for stanford anytime, and yeah I'm still riding dh, but unfortunately back hub on my bigsh1t has too much flex to ride now. That bike and all its parts have lasted me so long it's ridiculous, nobody else has a (mostly) 7 year old dh bike that they still race! :31: And that broken wrist looks gnar. probably a worse break than mine, he might need surgery... i did. :tired:

Haha yep. You're thinking of the right trail Tasso, it's that one I took you and Ryan down when you visited. I just recently started doing back to back shuttle runs on it and its amazing how much easier it gets. Thats why you should come visit, lets shuttle it! Theres also an alternate line called Pussy Crack that shoots you off a fat drop into a rocky shale landing. The name reminded me of crack rock at your hizza.

Oh yes, it's got some greeat biking. I didn't even know how good it was until I met some people and joined the Wheelmen team. I got pretty lucky.

Boulder costs a crap load since it's out of state and I don't think you've visited here long enough to say that. I know I can't say Boulder or SLO is better. They're def different, but if you're really into skiing maybe I'd agree that Boulder is better.

And yeah thats Nate. We ride a lot now, he's chill.
