to tell you that's a Brand New XT 8 Speed Shifter on there. Some
things I need to change. I forgot to put back the donuts on the
rear cable, you can see there not there. Dangit. Second,I want to
cut the Housing down for the rear Brake. I did not do it as it was
late AND I was thinking of a Single Crown in the Future. But after
sleeping on it,she must be cut. The Brake is proper,it's just to long
for a Dual Crown. Next,I thought I would run the Rear Der. Loop
to the Inside of the Stay, that's a negative. She's stay's as is. Last,
I need to adjust the Cranks,I want to push the Driveside In. Grande,
why are the cranks set up as is? I have barley an 1/8 clearence on
the crank from hitting the Bottom Stay on the Non Driveside. I need
some different spacers. I am going on a Mission now of checking the
Chain Alighment/Frame. It shifts fine, but somethin aint right? I'm not sure
yet. I have been doing all this other Stuff and have not gotten to it
yet,no biggie. I'll get her. It runs Great,Fast,Solid,Feels really good
right when you sit on it. My Son wants it. He cant get over that Monstor
on there. Then late last night he rode it. Busted a Wheelie for Days.
Then I rode it,It shift's so proper, and the whole Bike is quit like a church
mouse. The only thing you hear is that Fork. Two shots, second is to
show off the new Pedals and the Massive tire clearence. Mind you, that's a Hookwoorm on there boys. Grande,I hope you like it. Peace.

She looks absolutely stunning. I'm till laughing over the whole setup, though, and yet completely understand how great the ride must feel. One thing about the picture really strikes me - those pedals are HUGE. They make the cranks looke like spaghetti. Must grip like nobody's business. Very nice on the the XT shifter. Ball bearings and higher quality definitely take precedence over two chrome external parts, and I'm sure the shifting feels even beter as a result. XT shifter with an XTR midcage. Delicious... Overall, a fine build. Fine indeed.
The cranks and spacing were set up by the local OR shop after my accident so that the cranks used proper spacers, as opposed to my prior hodgepodge of junk-pile spacers and a handlebar. My inspection showed good alignment (unfortunately, the cranks came somewhat loose at one point), but if it's off then it's off. The drive side chainring has to be pretty darn close to the chainstay to have good chain alignment (I know from Draco and personal experience), so that may affect it. Also, is the spider completely straight? How is the chain slap and dropping action? These might affect the way the drivetrain feels. So may the general lack-of-chainguide. It's hard to say.
Actually, the bike has already changed so much I'm having a hard time recognizing it - the red bash, knobbies, millennium, improper parts all gone, it's a whole different beast. Definitely impressive. I'm glad your boy likes it, and even more glad that you're having fun on it. By the way, I leave in 3.5 weeks - on the 26th - and would love to tour Berkeley with you ahead of time (this applies to any of my homies who can visit the East bay). Who's available over the next few weekends?
Looking forward to more ride reports, modifications, pictures, and "pure hate"

I can move the cranks in it look's like mabye a 1/4 Inch. I need it
as it will not stay in the Lowest Gear without hoping off the Front
chainring. I even tried to lock it out,no luck. I have not check'ed the
Frame with my Frame Tool's{FAG TooL},my Der Tool{DAG Tool}. So
this will eliminate some things. The chain line is not bad,it should
not pull off the front chainring, but does. I'm thinking it's the Der.
Hanger combined with the Crank out to far. MY son blew the Front
Salsa Tube on a test ride. Problem, tube to thin for that tire. It just
blew with 60 psi over a speed bump. I tried to save weight, but it
wont work, going to switch back to my Intense Tubes. My buddie
tried that at N* one year. He used all three of my Tubes. He tried
to use a Presta in a DH Tire. I should have known better. I am worried
about the DerKerf regarding money. I have no idea at this point, nor
do I know when I get her back. Anyway Grrande,I'm almost there.
I KNOW some spacers from my MRP Bones Cranks will work. Also,my
sons BMX has Profiles on it and I have a Full BB Kit that I forgot I bought.
I am being picky with this,I need to know that when I am done, this Bike
is as Solid and Proper as my DerKerf. If I feel like dropping 10 Feet I need
to know that this Bike is Ready. Or if Anyone I know Hops on it. :147: It's a project that has taken me some time. My Wife slipped and fell on a two step from the Garage and Broke her KneeCap,possibe Ligament damage as well.
Scared the Crap out of me when it happend. Work is hard and then Ball. I
have not been on this like I should and I'm sorry. I am busy and dont know
if I can get a ride with the boys before you leave, however,I dont feel bad if
I dont,cause you'll be back in a mounth.I do know it's improtant to you,
so I will try. Boys, what ya think, you up for a Ride in Berkely? Grrande
what is THE LAST WEEKEND we have to be there? I'll see If I can make it?
Peace.

I *might* be free Saterday or Sunday, June 16th/17th (whoa, the 17th is my birthday actually... hmm). I get back in Bay Area from school friday (15th) evening. Gotta talk to parents about leaving again for a day. I'm leaving for a camping trip on Tuesday the 19th and need to get our boat running the day before so I'm busy until I get back from that trip in the 24th, then I start work the 25th. :02: Does the 16th work for you Dog, Darren and Tasso? Carpool for sure.

would be fine with me,only I'll be at a Graduation Party for my Sons
Girlfriend. I have not worked on the Draco,I have been riding the
Super 8. I do have the gears and rear brake working sweet. Only
the Highest Gear is a problem. I need to do some serious work on
her and dont want start it without finishing right away. Pull the Cranks
and play with Spacers, clean it,grease it. Check the the Frame and
and rear Der. Hanger,ReBleed a hayes or Shimy, change Tubes. No excuse,
but it is the truth. I got everything firguerd out and I'm ready to go.
She's good to go right now though, and I would bring her Sat. if it
happened. I have a serious injury on my Left Calf. I took a hit at third,
all meat,no bone, and he beat my throw. It's got the threads of the ball
right on my Calf. All puffed up and causing havic for me. I should have the
Draco to my liking within a couple of weeks. The DerKerf has me all upset.
I have not spoken to Chris in 1 week 3 days. I hope for the best and miss
my bike bad. I'll keep you abreast on her as the future comes. Peace.

Saturday is no good for me. I met Grande today at Paly's graduation. He's in good spirits and I was happy as hell to see him. It sucked that I couldn't get spot with him like good ol times.
By the way, Darren is back on the bike. I rode pacifica this past Sunday. Boyscout and Mile Run. Mile Run was terrifying for me, but I hit all the little rollers on Boyscout. The Foes will be going under construction as I get more spare cash. I took a hard hit this month in bills. I plan on rebuilding 2 monsters this summer. Let's hope I can do it.

DeKerf is coming Friday or Saturday. I dont know how much work
I can do on the bikes? The Draco is almost there. I want to finish
the Draco First, but God only knows? I am very busy. I want to ride
this Weekend as well. I had to take Two weekends off due to my
Calf injury from ball. My Dad is coming Friday From KC. I have no idea.
But I will post a shot for ya. The Draco is Fun,serious Fun. I have to
post a Finish wieght and Done shot. Comin up. I bought a new Thompson
70 stem and new Mid Rise Easton Bars for the DerKerf. The stem has
me a little worried I must admit. 31.8 Combo, with the New Fork and Paint Job? Oh Man,it's over.:261: Peace.

me thinks that's the 10th anniversary issue of the Z. They went w/ retro colors that coincidentally looks really good with that frame.

It does. I saw Tone this weekend. Great to see him. I saw his
new BadAss Squish,we had much to talk about. I said Tone, you
rollin again? Look's like you rollin Proper! Last I heard Tone you
were into photography? Great to catch up on the Past. He actually
ended up rollin with my other Buddie. I am beat up pretty bad. I cased
a kicker on Live Wire BAD,{the new trail} and Actually Bent the Axel
of my A Frame{driveside}and ripped it out of the Crank thread. Both are
destroyed. I Flatted so many times I threw my 8 on the last one. Very
Very Child Like,I'm Sorry to say,but it's the Truth. The Frustation of it all
got to me. I had to walk back to the Condo. I have NEVER Flatted this many
times,I changed my setup this year and paid for it. If I had carried 2 Tubes
on the last day, which I had,I could have finished the day. The funny thing is
I had plenty, just not On me. I literally brought a Bike Shop with me,yet I
walked home. My Heal is Tore Up from that Case, and my Left Calf is
Bruised Bad. All in All,a great Trip that humbled me to the Core. Peace.
