SSSS Project = Single Speed Specialized S-works Project
Bike has taken many forms since it was purchased back in 1998. First, it was cross-country (I did a couple races on it)...then it was setup for more freeride orientated terrain (yeah it was before the freeride boom), a few years later my brother converted it back to XC, and finally after all these years of use it will retire as a single-speeder (this frame ain't steel ya know).
actually you dont need a chain tensioner if you mess with the chain some. Me and my dad made like a half link using an extra master link so it just barely fit on my frame, but a chain tensioner would be a lot easier

Interesting. Could you take a picture of the chain setup with the half-link? Peace, Ivan
Actually he's right. You could use a normal half link, but your gonna have to play with the size of the cog. Thats what i did for a while on my old stp.
Installed the fork, bar, and stem. Also found some bolts for the chainring (gold). I only found 3 short length ones so I had to make 2 spacers (as pictured). More updates tomorrow... -Ivan
Fork: Marzocchi Z1 Wedge
Bar: Easton EA50 Aluminum
Stem: Specialized 100mm X 5deg
Chainring bolts: SRP Gold with two homemade spacers.
-Installed ODI Rogue Grips, XTR V-brake levers
-Mounted Ritchey SpeedMax Alpha 2.1 and WTB Nano Raptor 2.1 to the rear and front wheels, respectively.
-Gusset Single Speed Conversion Kit: I ran into a problem with the lockring being just a tad longer than the regular shimano one, so it was unable to fully tighten on the cassette. But since I wanted to use the supplied cromoly lockring as well as push the chainline further out, I fixed the problem by using a cassette spacer then wide spacer -> 18t cog -> narrower spacer -> cromoly lockring.
-Replaced the dried out BB (dont think it was ever changed), with a newer UN-72 Shimano BB that was in the spare parts bin.
-Upgraded the chain tensioner with a sealed bearing pulley...notice the blue locktite? :) (waiting for that stuff to dry before installing).
-Wheels are installed. Actually feels quite light...maybe I am just too accustomed to dh/fr bikes.
Next:
-Gotta grab some Triflow for the brake cables.
-Waiting on the 36t and seatpost collar to arrive. (The old collar was stripped to death)
