Whistler Mountain Bike Park is Heaven

Whistler surpasses everything I have ever ridden. Period.

From step-ups to wall rides to 40ft tables to just about anything you can imagine, this place has it in one version or another.

There are four trail levels, green, blue, black, and double black (expert+ only). All the trails are well packed (not dusty) and have well placed jumps, berms, and obstacles. The infamous A-Line trail has 55 jumps and felt like a giant slalom course with minimal pedaling (thank god!). My favorite trail was Dirt Merchant which offered a handful of step-ups and some nice drops along the way.

The rental bike (Rocky Mountain - Slayer SS 396) seemed to be miles above my older Specialized SX but some parts could have been replaced...tires were worn and pedals were loose. Despite the minor mechanical issues, I was safe on the bike except for one steep and wet rocky section which I disengaged my feet out of vertical fear and hit my crouch repeatedly while trying to prevent myself from endoing, ah yes -- double black is in a league of its own.

So media is limited as there is no hiking on the trails and is quite hazardous given the number of speeding bikers coming down the slope. (Helmet cam seems to be the best way to get some footage). Nevertheless, I took a couple pics -- I wish I took more as there were a ton of cooler stuff to give justice too.

All in all, after a dozen rides down the mountain I now realize why Canadians are such bad*ss riders. So next summer -- who wants to go on a road trip and visit mountain bike heaven?

Peace,

Ivan

A freeride bike would be best IMHO - best of both worlds. The trails have a ton of FUN jumps - doubles, tables, step-ups.

I was dreaming about them last night. Too much fun. Great place to improve skills.

Next summer again for sure.
