if all goes well. (off ramp and other places going out of buisness) thats what someone said who works there but yeah.
|
that's really lame of them. obviously it's up to all of you to make your own decision but i say don't support people like that trying to make all the "mom and pop" stores go out of business. :lame:
support shops like woodside. i guarantee you won't see supergo going on a morning ride before their store opens with their customers or helping out a kid who really can't afford some new part they really need.
supergo :rocketwho :lame:

i work at offramp and let me tell you...this is turning into all out war. My manager sent me down to supergo to go get prices the other day. just last weekend super go sent down 3 guys to get our prices. most of the time you can totsally tell theyre from another shop because they ask for one bike(lowend) but they pay attention to others(high-end). so thats my little update from the world of shop rivalry.

why support the little stores? if they are not competetive enough then they shouldnt be in business, we shouldnt feel sorry because a superior competitor comes into town. if supergo does not do a good job then the other shops will stay in business, but if they surpass them all in service, price, and availabilty of parts, then why the hell would you go somewhere else.

The little stores can't compete with the big ones. And usually the little stores are owned by the people who actually live in that town.. So do you really want to kick the locals out? It's like Walmart. Families who have lived in the area for years start a business. But then some huge nationwide discounter comes into town that can underprice anyone, and force them out of business. And also now you have a 80,000sqft building in town that also creates car traffic... That's one side of it anyway :P
It probably isn't as bad for bike stores, I think in the end the people and service will differentiate the two. Depending on the items, usually people wont care spending a few bucks more if it's made up for in store/service quality.

I dont see why anyone would want to support a store like supergo, unlike all the local shops they are not involved in the biking community. These big buisness's (Performance, Supergo, ect) are only in for the money. When the worker from sueprgo said that their goal as a bike company was to put all the other shops out of buisness that just proves the my point. you may get better prices, but how far will the company go to help you?

the whole point of business is to make money. if supergo only lowers prices but are crappy in everything else, no one will go there. if they do a superior job in all ares, then your just stupid for going somewhere else

Don't you understand? Shops like Woodside are what keep the mountain biking community alive. If we all went and bought everything from Supergo, every other shop would be out of business. The sport to stores like Supergo is money. Selling bikes is their job and business, and although some of the employees may enjoy biking, the guys/girls at the top of the ladder probably do not and are just the businessmen. However, those are the guys/girls making the decisions for the store/company. But stores like Woodside love the sport, have been/are involved heavily in it, and are willing to contribute all they can to it once they get on their feet. We just need to give stores like Woodside a chance while they set up. They don't have the support Supergo has to have really low prices right off the bat. Stores like Woodside need to slowly lower their prices over the years as business increases. They need our support for a few years, but eventually they will have low prices and they will remember what we did for them. If you really don't want to spend the few extra dollars supporting stores like Woodside rather than going to some big chain and saving a bit of cash, then you obviously are missing a huge part of what this sport is about.

If we all went and bought from Supergo, we would most likely be saving a **** load of money. This would put others out of business, so what, they can't compete so therefore they should not be in business. If a business sells products which are cheaper than its competitors, then the cheaper business is the smart one. If they follow up there low prices with superior service and helpfullness from the staff, then that is the best store. If Woodside or any other shop is VASTLY superior in many of the qualities of a good business, except they have higher prices, more people will go to those shops and keep them in business. Eventually the shop will be able to lower prices, then they will become the better shop. If things keep going this way for the smaller shop, they will expand, most likely open up other shops and become a big buisiness, like Supergo. That will not happen fast, but if they are good enough then your precious little shop will end up just like Supergo. The sport is not about helping the little guy, the one who only complains about how they never had a chance, how they expect you to feel sorry for the little guy. Go read some ****ing Ayn Rand. The sport is about riding, how you get your stuff is up to you, I would rather pay less and keep more money for other things. Quit worrying about the business, most of us are old enough to have a job, but are no where near being part of the management. Leave it until later, and ride.

thats the world. competition. i would hate to see all of these little shops around the bay area go out of buisness just because one big shop came in. in a way its awesome having a really nice bike shop local. but there are other shops we like also that might have a hard time keeping up. im sure all of the other bike shops are going to do fine except the offramp. sorry they are just so clost but maybe not. they might still do fine.
we will find out in a bit.
