3 forks for 2 frames...

Sup people,

So I've decided to upgrade. I am planning on getting a Santa Cruz Chameleon.

I'm thinking of getting a fork first, and mounting it to this red bike as I gather the components I want:



I intend on using the Chameleon for everything but drops and DH (which will be reserved for my Bullit).

Here's what I hope to end up with:


The two fork I am considering are:

Fox Vanilla RLC
Marzocchi Z-1 ETA 20mm

The distant third is a 20mm DJ.

If I go Fox, I can use current wheel and spend more money on other parts. If I go Marzocchi, I can use the Bullit's wheels, and I'll have to cut on costs everywhere else.

My overall budget is $1400 max, but I have a lot of parts I can use off the red bike.


Please help me out.

hmmm... after crunching numbers, i'm really leaning towards the fox. a Z-1 means going over budget. Thanks for letting me think out loud...oh wait, I'm typing.

Are you gonna be buying everything new? 1400$ seems like plenty to build a nice HT....

You should search for lower prices on the frame/fork because those are what are bringing the price up so high. I'll make a quick search for ya also.

Instead of getting these:
25.00- brake levers__Avid Single Digit 7 levers
I have some Avid AD3 Brake levers that I'll let go for 13
They are the same as the SD7s but they dont have the little red dial and are all black

Yup, new fork and frame for me. I am checking around for used stuff, though. Saw an ad for an 02 Med Blue Chameleon for $275, but I'm waiting for a reply. As for a fork, I don't want to be the third owner.

I'll buy the levers off of you for my gf's bike. They were in my Jenson shopping cart...heh.

I can probably make it.... not for sure yet though. That other item is a tire... but what kind? Do you want a Mobster 2.5?

I've got an FSA Orbit x headset I could let go of. I'm pretty sure its an Orbit X, because it says that on the top part of the top cup, but I'm not sure if it's the original "topcup cap." Picturoo. -Josef
