going to buy new race bike... (ds, mtnx) + occasional dj and trail ride
2004 small black tazer- fox float r shock
900 bucks (the coolest, most badass, fastest, winningest bike ever. 100 bucks more, but its an intense :147: . 3.5-4.5 inches.)
2004 medium trans red heckler- fox ava rl shock
800 bucks (awesome all-round frame, niiiiicer shock, 100 bucks less. 5 inches, and i probably should sport santa cruz because i live there... kinda too much travel... i just dont know)
whats the call? im thinking intense right now ...... nicest frame ever... intense... good amount of travel.... why not just spend 100 more?

I say go for the Tazer. Sounds like you are biased towards it anyway. That would be my choice too if I were you.
Those are some great prices. Where did you find those deals? -mm (also in the market for a ds/mx frame)

Heckler, got to be the heckler...
|
|
Go with a heckler. I've got a '03 and have no complaints other than the 5th element setup. But that's not a problem for you since you'll be using a fox in the rear. Plus, how can you beat a bike that has a bottle opener in the rear? That is just out right extreme... :147:

I rode tone's heckler at sea otter, and that bike is built for every riding style, i'd get one if you want a more freerideable bike, but if your goin racing tazers handle very well from what i've heard.

everybody's got a Tazer...i mean, they are nice bikes from what i've seen and ridden a bit, but i think they are overrated. Personally, the Heckler is a better all-around bike. I'll agree that the Tazer is probably better for racing, but might not be the best choice if you want a versatile bike. Never had a problem with Santa Cruz bikes, great customer service and great bikes.

tazer - tyler mccaul, my cousin cooper, kyle cronin, gabe randall (seller).
heckler - josh, jamie goldman, greg watts, andy watts, alex reveles, taylor adams.
no one i know has a black tazer. im gonna talk to gabe tomorow and see whats up.

If you want a bike that you can do everything on get the santa cruz.If you want a race bike get the intense.I have a tazer and love it, it handles awsome. As far as trail riding its not the ideal bike its best suited on the track and dirt jumps. The santa cruz may not handle as well but its more versatile.

what on earth is everybody smoking (cept mm)? i mean seriously...hook me up with whatever it is if it makes you this halucinagenic. the tazer is probably one of the best freeride bikes out there. it is absolutelly perfect for trails and can do every racing event out there except extreme downhill. just hook it up with a romic and your golden. its not about what everyone else has, its about what kind of bike is perfect for you (unless its a bullit). i would go for the tazer any day.

I aint smokin nothing i have a tazer and had a heckler and im just sharing my thoughts,if you use a tazer for freeriding like drops and sh##t that thing will break in no time. The reason i said its not an ideal trail bike is because i like to sit when i trail ride and with the angle of the seat post and the super short seat tube you cant really get comfortable.I end up having to stand the whole time.Just my opinion.

very true. i didnt mean drops as freeriding. im not big on drops to flat. but just in general for dirt jumping and staircases and stuff, i find it perfect. the seat tube issue does seem like a problem for someone like yourself. if i were you id just get a longer seat post. the seat tube angle shouldnt effect that at all if the post is long enough.
