What Mechanical disk brakes does everybody Recommend for my HT? :06: I know i definetly want a 6" disk and it must be mechanical. I aint a hard rider really, just need something instead of brakeless. it is going to be for the rear. and i do not want to spend TOO much on them. :33:

avid mech. but MAKE SURE to set it up with NICE CABLES/HOUSING as well as NICE LEVERS. i've felt avid mechs that had sh.itty setup and levers-they didn't work that great. then i've felt them with XTR levers-they felt awesome.
i suppose this is more applied to trials. for FR use im sure that the sd3 levers are ok, especially since it is rear. so yea, i know you don't have THAT much cash to spend, so im sure that some avid levers will suit you well

An HMX-1 in very good condition, disc and 6" adapter included and an integrated lever/shifter combo, maybe some cables and housings to...45 bucks, kinda negotiable.

i was thinkin avids, but they are REALLY hard to find used and new they are like $80 + then i need levers. so its gonna end up bein like $110 for a rear brake which is insane!! i might well get like hfx-9's or something.

For sure go with avids if you go mechanical! My brother has them on his hardtail and they work great. I had a pair of hayes mechanical and they were horrible. I would highly recommend avids.

Avid Mechanicals are good and grabby once bedded in.
|
|
Avid Mechanicals take a few rides to "bed in the pads" and be grabby.
Make sure and use compressionless brake cable housing.
Tektro TALON brake levers (BMX) are the shindizzle but you have to buy 2 right levers if you are buying front and rear. The TALON brake levers have a killer 2 finger deep bend in them...

NOOO HOPES SUCK, unless you have the time and money to bleed them every month, and you know how to keep them set up right but otherwise.
