What would be a good DS bike frame

Curious what you guys think would be a good Dual Slalom frame. It's somewhat a broad question. Really what I'm searching for is if a short travel FS be nice or if a hardtail be just as good. Even though an FS would be more forgiving, the money saved by sticking to a hardtail to then sink into better components is my direction.

So I take it you favor a short travel FS vs any type of hardtail out there.

Quasi's SX would be a good choice, but if your looking for a HT, Planet-X Jackflash, or Hammerhead. Uhmmm....Azonic DS( i think thats what it is), Woodman DS, Versus 647. As for the FS. Intense Tazor, Versus Blitz maybe; might be a bit heavy for 4x & DS. Santa Cruz Blur, like Roger said. And really any bike your comfortable on that you like. Those are some of my fav's, so...good luck.

A Staats MTX is a really nice hardtail for racing. Since it is chromoly it absorbs a lot of the chatter that you get from aluminum providing a more foregiving and lively ride. It 's also durable for jumping as well as being light. I believe the frame weighs 4.4 lbs.

I think the Santa Cruz Blur or Specialized SX are both solid for the short travel bikes.

Thanks for the input so far, I'd really like to get a HT. Reason for me is it's less parts to fail and maintain. When riding trails or jumping I also feel more comfortable with a HT. I still haven't went DH'n with my Rocky RM6, rather take my Kona DJ.

So chromo is a better material to go by as far as reduced chatter? Just for giggles and grins, if I needed to choose btwn to alum frames with real siml. geo. Would the type of alum make a diff? 6061 or 7005?

Thanks again

wow... i typed in "6061 or 7005" & the 1st google hit was an mtbr article:

cool. : )

I'd also advise to get a bit smaller size DS bike. I tried racing a large chameleon, which is perfect for my height *if I were riding XC. However, a medium would have been much better.

SHR, Black Diamond Mines, Antioch Skatepark, Limeridge, Shellridge, Concord Skatepark, DVC urban, Mt. Diablo- Devil's Elbow, Tour de Peninsula, WC street, Pleasanton Bike Park, San Ramon BMX, Benicia Skatepark, Moraga Skatepark, Moser Hill, Joaquin Miller Park, Skyline in Napa, Boyscout, The Crack, Carlmont, Shells, Montaña de Oro, Poly Canyon, Cal Poly urban, Skeggs, Carnegie State park/GGG/CHDH, N*, Marin Headlands, China Camp, South Briones, WC Skatepark, IH trails, SV Park Jumps, Rankin Park, Acalanes Ridge, PHPT, Bike4Breath, Hidden Lake jumps and singletrack, Park 'n Ride, San Ramon Skatepark, Dublin Skatepark, Pleasanton Skatepark, 24 hours of Cool, CA, Beresford Skatepark...

Sounds like 7005 would be a tad stronger being that it doesn't require as much heated treatment after welding if at all.

Yea I bought a small HT at first which felt somewhat comf. but I hopped on an xs 13" frame and man I can huck that bike like nobody's biz. When I decide on a frame I'll prob get somewhere around a 13" frame. I'm only 5'-4", 5'-5" when I wear heals.
