Biggest Jump or Gap you have hit?
|
|
Lets say distance between lip and landing. Can be hit/landed/attempted... Feel free to share which jump / gap it was.
For me its the Pacifica Gap that destroyed my fork and ego for a couple months.

It was a ravine gap in santa barbara (goleta proper). Flat landing, 25mph+ really really stupid when I look back at it. I landed rear wheel first (good thing) and still folded my fork. Did a flip over the bars and landed sliding on my knees upon the fork fully compressing and folding in on itself. I have since smartened up and refrained from such stupidity (most the time).:147:

25 votes and none for the "35-40 foot jump". Interesting. :06: -Ivan

Not sure I want to answer that one,

Can't remember, and really don't want to...(IMHO&E)=In my humble opinion and experience.
Sorry, but I'm kinda afraid to touch any of the polling choices. If you want to know look up the 2001 Sea Otter's 4X course step-up mid-course. Hit it in the windy evening, they were deciding on whether or not to let the lower classes (besides pro) run it the next day as an "exposition event-no cash purse". Over shot the landing point, blew through my travel, I can't remember the rest. Friends said I hit the hard pack wall cut on the left side (old course) the sound of either my helmet cracking or shoulder rip[ping out of it's socket (maybe a combo of both) echoing in the air. Got a beautiful reminder of it I get see and feel every day. Maybe 20'-25'(?) can't remember much other than what I was doing going into it, and that awful ammonia reek of smelling-salts, and the ambulance ride. Glad I was in a full face and Dianesse, things could've been worse.
Then again, at least I can still use that arm, and titanium is lighter than steel and rust resistant. ;)
I think the "Era of Stupidity" has passed. People are realizing just how hurt you can get. Look at Josh,Wade, among a few others, and how badly they've been hurt in the last 5 years. If you pull off the big stuff it is no longer a matter of "If you'll get hurt", it becomen "When, and when it does, what are the consequences".
Why "IMHO&E"? Well at least now everyone understands why my family asks me not to race anymore, I've burned up at least 6 outta 9 lives on a bike. I'll hold onto those last few for something later on, when I won't do something so stupid and reckless. I was way overconfident.

Why is there no choice for a 3 foot jump? C'mon...
Well actually, I tried to jump across the Grand Canyon, I had a R1 with nitrous string me along, and I made it about 1/4 of the way across the gap and just fell in. I tore my ACL doing this, but it's not so bad.
