i'm going to write a controversial paper on how we should legalize more trails in the norcal area to get more kids off the streets, and onto the mountains.
later, this might be taken to the walnut creek city counsel along with a petition to legalize trails, preferrably in walnut creek open space, what all of you know as limeridge (AKA: mach 5, or that cool concord trail in hellagreasy2) . i am well aware that this has been a mission that many have tried and failed, but my grandmother who works with the law vowed to me to help with this... and once she gets determined, she wont get out of your face until she wins...
so, i'm trying to make my paper as persuasive as possible, and i need your help!!!! any input or arguments that you have supporting this issue would be VERY appreciated.
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

You should throw Calabazas in there, that's a pretty controversial subject. Or maybe something about how in the past it used to be skaters that had a problem, and now bikers want to work to get the same privileges as skaters do with skate parks. Good luck.

Chrissie,
What a great topic for a paper. I don't have time to write up a lot of suggestsions, but feel free to give me a call if you have questions or want feedback. I'm also looking for content for the NorCAMBA newsletter. If you would like to submit it for publication, let me know.

well, side-o has been around since the late eighties and although an "illegal" trail(there are no signs anywhere that say no bikes), has always had a large group of locals that constantly ride and maintain it, but hikers constantly booby trap, or destroy parts of the trails. most of the trails are too steep to be hiking trails, so hikers are obviously going out of their way to create these obstacles.
shady 80 is a mostly bmx ridden dirt jump spot right off highway 580 in the berkeley marina. It has been around since the early 80's and until about 2000, was generally left alone. however in the year 2000, when a plan to restore the area to a wildlife preserve was started, the jumps were plowed, even though they were about 400 feet away from the area that was being cleaned up for the bird habitat. they have since been rebuilt and plowed a couple times, at one point a chain link fence with no trespassing signs was put up, but was removed later. when i was first getting into bmx, i used to go down there, and there were always people there, it was a good environment for kids, because there would always be some older guys there to keep em in line. now i go down there and it's deserted, was covered in trash until a recent clean up and just doesn't have the same felling as it used to

I did a paper on this topic too, one thing I did was contact the local IMBA rep. for the bay area. If you've got any questions that would be a good source. His email is on imba.com or if you need it I could send it to you. Another good idea would be to speak to other user groups to find out what problems they have with allowing bikes on trails. Also, speaking of that cool concord trail in Hellagreasy2... could anybody PM me directions to that trail coming from the North Bay?

giving people directions to illegal trails isnt cool, mach 5 from what I hear isnt in the great of condition anyway so you prolbobly dont want to hit it and destroy whats left of the trail.
