42T will hit the chainstay unless you have it spaced way way out there. Besides, who runs a 42?!?! In what situation that you spin out a 38 will gravity not almost accelerate you the same? On the road, thats when...

I run a 34 or 36 on all my bikes. I can climb most everything, sprint out of corners, and anytime there is a fireroad, I let gravity do its thing. I run a road cassette, which allows me to run a smaller front cog and have better shifting and a shorter cage derailleur.

04 has ISCG. I ran an ISCG E13 guide with my Demo 9, worked great. However for most chainguides on the Demo, you will need to flip around the pivot bolt and you might need to clearence the backside lip of the chainguide. The Demo takes some finicking to get most guides to work.

I ran a 38 on my 04 Demo9 and it worked great. I wouldn't want to use anything bigger than that anyway. I used a Gamut on mine, it worked really well with that bike because it was partly designed to fit that frame.

Well thanks guys, im gonna buy a p40 and does anyone have a 38tooth chainring i could buy? the only reason i have a 42 is.....its all i have lying around besides a 44 and a 32. i have topped out a 38 though, cause in the summa i live only 3 hours from mammoth, and have a place to stay that is an hour away. its all about velocity at high speed.
