Waaaayyy too much thought went into this answer...

My vote comes with an "*".

Peninsula, basically covers it all, from San Fran, all the way to HWY 17, far as I care, and the inclusion of Santa Cruz. If I wanna ride S.F., Pacifica, East Bay Hills, Santa Cruz, whatever, with the exception of what's right here, Red Devil, etc, everything else is at most, just 30-45mins away. Get in the beast, mob it to wherever and ride, right? :147:

~You forgot to mention the goat head thorns, dry trails, lack of a serious core group of riders, (well at least a sizeable count*).

*Rich, Chrissie, Ryan, Mike, etc...nothing personal, if you look at it logistically and geographically, wouldn't East Oakland, Walnut Creek, etc. count as a border area?? Base this on population and income, there's a big difference when looking at the demographics, right??

I referenced this when determining regions:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco_Bay_Area

It also splits the East Bay into the Inner and Outter regions. Shoot, does that mean I have to change my login to Outter East Bay Rich?

North Bay has the best riding period. it is just all illegal. I dont know how many of you have ever ridden Tam in Marin, you know where mtb was invented. some of those trails are 10 times harder than the toughest trails at whistler. I could name four that are like goats gully all the way down.
