formula

ok.... so supposedly formula disc brakes are really nice... i just ordered a oro puro(formula) front disc brake for my trials bike... i did a bunch of a research and its supposed to be REAlly nice. why does no one around here have em? ive never ever seen them on the DH bikes or XC bikes around. like its really light. good modulation. good braking. how much better can it get?

Formula's are really nice. I run them on my DJ bike. They are my favorite brakes that I have used.

I've heard good things about them as well. To answer your question, I think Shimano, Hayes, Avid, Magura and Hope have a pretty good grip on the market in the US. Formula is making a push, but with many US manufacturers spec'ing their bikes with primarily Shimano, Hayes, and Avid, you'll see more of their parts around town.

Unfortunately, there is a recall on a batch of Formulas:

Since you recently ordered them, you'll be ok as far as the recall goes since they would have already pulled the bad batch off the market shelves.

I've got the Formula K24's and am fairly happy with them. I've gotten heavy fading on really steep sections but aside from those few occurances I love them. I'm thinking since I run 6" rotors on my new Blur the power feels less then what I'm used to on my DH bike with 8" rotors. I have a friend with the K24's and 8" rotors and he hasn't had any fading problems like I have. They are way better then the old Hayes I had on the Blur before. Looking back I might have bought the Juicy 7's since I run those on my DH bike and know how to work on them. I've heard that the Formulas are a pain to bleed but I havn't had to bleed them yet.

I also really like the fat lever feel on the Formulas. The K24's are very adjustable on the fly which is very conveinent.
